As a consumer protection attorney, Katie Porter has spent her career fighting for consumers.
Following the 2008 mortgage crisis, Katie was appointed to be California’s Independent Monitor over the Big Banks. The banks’ predatory lending practices had contributed to the mortgage crisis, and it was Katie’s job to hold the banks’ feet to the fire to make sure California families actually got the money they were owed thanks to an $18 billion settlement.
Then in Congress, she passed laws to stop Big Pharma from price gouging and used Congressional Hearings to secure things like free COVID testing for every American.
As a consumer protection nerd, Katie’s deeply worried about Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s decision to gut the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau—an agency which fights for consumers and goes after businesses that scam and cheat Americans. She’s been sounding the alarm about what this means for our whole economy.
