Dear Friend,
Good morning, and welcome to our Weekend Update.
President Donald J. Trump is taking action to protect the American steel industry by closing loopholes that allow other countries to bypass U.S. tariffs through Mexico and Canada. This move will strengthen domestic production and encourage critical investment in U.S. Steel. President Trump and DOGE are also making real progress in draining the swamp—exposing waste, abuse, and fraud in government. The American people deserve accountability, and we’re committed to delivering results. I joined the “National Report” on Newsmax to discuss further. Click here <[link removed]> or below to watch.

On Friday, I joined “Varney & Co.” on Fox Business to discuss President Trump’s plan to make America energy dominant again, DOGE’s efforts to make the government more efficient, and our work in Congress to advance a pro-growth, pro-security budget. We also covered Governor Shapiro’s lawsuit, which is nothing more than a political stunt. If the governor actually wanted to fix the problem, he’d work with the Trump Administration to ensure funds are spent properly—instead, he’s running to the courts to get headlines. Earlier this week, Governor Josh Shapiro filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration is an attempt not to resolve the unaccountable spending of the Biden-Harris administration but to exploit it. The Trump Administration’s funding pause is entirely legal and an absolutely necessary action to ensure taxpayer dollars serve America’s real priorities—not the left’s extreme agenda. This isn’t a cut, or politics; it’s a common sense pause to review how huge levels of taxpayers’ dollars are being spent. President Trump has every right to ensure these funds go where they were intended to be allocated, not to the waste and misdirection we have seen in recent days such as the $59 million to luxury hotels housing illegals in New York City.
The American people elected accountability, and some in Washington and the Governor’s office don’t like that. They’d rather keep the status quo than have anyone question where the money is going. President Trump is doing exactly what voters asked for—ensuring federal funds are spent wisely and that taxpayer dollars aren't being mismanaged or wasted.
If Shapiro actually wanted to fix the problem, he’d work with the administration to ensure these funds are spent properly—instead, he’s running to the courts for a political stunt.
In positive news, Marc Fogel is finally free after years of wrongful detention in Russia. For 1,255 days, Marc suffered in a Russian prison, and after just 22 days in office, President Trump was able to secure his release.
I’ve been engaged in efforts to bring Marc home, and I want to thank President Trump, Secretary Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff for delivering on their commitment to reunite him with his family. Their leadership made this possible, and today, the Fogel family can finally be together again.
IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) — the brainchild <[link removed]> of Sen. Elizabeth Warren — has long functioned as a woke, weaponized arm of the bureaucracy that uses its power against certain industries and individuals disfavored by so-called “elites.”
For example:
- CFPB used <[link removed]> its slush fund <[link removed]> — collected from targeting financial institutions — to support radical advocacy groups. One such group is the Soros-backed <[link removed]> Mississippi Center for Justice, which advocates <[link removed]> for “racial and economic justice,” targets <[link removed]> religious liberty, and assists <[link removed](ICE)%20raids%20in%20Mississippi.%20The%20center%20also%20offered%20legal%20help%20to%20those%20that%20were%20facing%20removal.%202> illegal immigrants seeking to skirt our nation’s laws. Another <[link removed].> is The Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia, whose board features senior left-wing officials and has lobbied hundreds of times for more welfare spending.
- CFBP threatened <[link removed]> banks for refusing to lend to illegal immigrants.
- CFPB targeted <[link removed]> a Chicago small business after it complained about the city’s rampant crime.
- CFPB was accused <[link removed]> of mining American citizens’ personal financial information — with a 2017 inspector general’s report <[link removed]> raising significant concerns <[link removed]> about its data security.
- CFPB granted itself <[link removed]> broad new powers in the waning hours of the lame duck Biden administration. Described as classic “government overreach,” <[link removed]> the agency gave itself the authority to regulate Americans’ checking accounts by dictating <[link removed]> government price controls <[link removed]> and unilaterally buried <[link removed]> $50 billion in medical debt.
Under the administration of President Trump, the weaponization ends right now.
From Washington, D.C.:
I spoke in support of Congressman Zach Nunn's Protect Small Business from Excessive Paperwork Act, H.R. 736 to give small businesses relief from FinCEN’s burdensome reporting rule. Millions of businesses face costly, duplicative regulations with steep penalties. This bill delays the rule to 2026, allowing time for the Trump Administration to chart a better path forward. We must cut red tape and support Main Street. Click here <[link removed]> or below to watch my remarks.

Later, I spoke in support of my bipartisan legislation, the China Exchange Rate Transparency Act (H.R. 692). This bill addresses China's opaque and often manipulative foreign exchange practices, which undermine U.S. competitiveness. By requiring the U.S. to advocate for greater exchange rate transparency at the IMF, we are reinforcing fair trade and global economic stability. I expect the bill to pass this evening with strong bipartisan support. Click here <[link removed]> or below to watch my remarks.

I had the opportunity to meet with physicians representing the American Medical Association. We discussed legislation to ensure doctors receive payments appropriate for the services they provide, which preserves critical access to healthcare services for all Pennsylvanians.
I had a great meeting today in my DC office with Kevin Fromer, President and CEO of the Financial Services Forum. We discussed ways the Trump Administration can prioritize access to capital, regulatory flexibility, and ensuring our financial system is the most competitive in the world.
On Tuesday evening, I sampled some of Pennsylvania’s finest beers alongside skilled local brewers and fellow members of the Pennsylvania delegation. I enjoyed meeting Skip Kratzer and Larry Winans, co-founders of Jackass Brewing Company in Williamsport, whose beers stood out as some of the best on the panel—though I may be slightly biased, as they proudly represent Pennsylvania’s beautiful 9th District. I also had the opportunity to connect with Tom Kehoe of Yards Brewing Co. in Philadelphia and Fred Maier of Susquehanna Brewing Co. in Selinsgrove, both of whom are doing great work in Pennsylvania’s thriving craft beer scene.
On Wednesday morning, spent with the Firefighter's Association State of Pennsylvania - FASP at their 12th annual "Breakfast on the Hill”. It was great to sit down with these dedicated men and women who put their lives on the line for our communities. I expressed my appreciation for their service to our Commonwealth and reaffirmed my commitment to fighting for them in Washington. As a member of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, I’ll continue pushing for the federal funding and resources our first responders need to keep our towns and neighborhoods safe.
I reintroduced the USA Batteries Act to repeal the Superfund Chemical Tax on lead oxide, antimony, and sulfuric acid, which are essential to lead battery manufacturing. This legislation will protect jobs, strengthen American industry, and ensure manufacturing stays right here at home. Click here <[link removed]> or below to learn more.
<[link removed]>
At a House Committee on Small Business hearing, I asked three separate witnesses whether the 1071 rule has helped small businesses. All three said no—clear proof that this burdensome regulation needs to go.
That’s why in Congress; I will fight to eliminate policies that hold small businesses back. One of the best ways to support Main Street America is by continuing President Trump’s Tax Cuts & Jobs Act (TCJA). Savings from the TCJA allow them to reinvest in their employees, drive innovation, and strengthen communities across the nation. Click here <[link removed]> or below to watch my remarks.
<[link removed]>
Later, I questioned Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System Chairman Powell on debanking, taking a holistic approach to capital standards, inflation, and the benefits of DOGE on the economy. Once President Donald J. Trump supply-side, pro-growth policies take effect, Americans will see prices come down and access to capital go up. Click here <[link removed]> or below to watch my remarks.
<[link removed]>
This week, I cosponsored the bipartisan AM Radio in Every Vehicle Act, which directs the U.S. Department of Transportation to require automakers to include AM radio in new vehicles, ensuring millions of drivers retain access to vital information, entertainment, and emergency alerts. <[link removed]>
It was great to meet with the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers (SBDC). We discussed the great work SBDC's do to assist our small businesses and how we can work together to expand access to capital, and cut through the red tape holding Main Street America back.
On Thursday, I spoke in support of Congressman Juan Ciscomani's H.R. 35, the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act, which ensures law enforcement has the necessary tools to fully prosecute illegal immigrants who deliberately evade Border Patrol agents.
The American people will not tolerate lawlessness or policies that prioritize criminals over citizens. This legislation sends a clear message to cartels and traffickers: endangering American lives will have serious consequences. I am pleased that it passed the House by a vote of 264-155 and will now move to the Senate for further consideration. Click here <[link removed]> or below to watch my remarks.
<[link removed]>
On Thursday, I had a productive and enjoyable lunch meeting with Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System Governor Michelle Bowman, discussing interest rates, supervisory reforms, and the future of bank regulation.
Miki Bowman is a strong, smart, and focused leader on the Board of Governors, committed to ensuring access to capital, strengthening community banks, and maintaining a stable and resilient economy.
As President Donald J. Trump continues to prioritize pro-growth, supply-side economic policies, ensuring experienced leadership in bank supervision will be critical to fostering a dynamic financial system.
Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles on winning Super Bowl LIX! Go Birds! FLY EAGLES FLY!
May God continue to bless our nation. I look forward to seeing you soon,
Dan Meuser
