News From Congressman Bilirakis

February 16, 2025

Dear Friend,

Washington was full of activity last week.  I’m excited by the proactive steps we are taking to cut wasteful spending, protect our most vulnerable citizens and restore an America First agenda.  While mainstream media may be intent on drumming up fear and division, the truth is that we are taking very practical steps to restore common sense decision making and serve as good stewards of your hard earned tax dollars.  Continue reading to learn more about my efforts on your behalf.

Restoring Fiscal Sanity:  Obviously, a serious look at our federal spending is long overdue. A new report shows that millions of tax dollars were funneled to groups with ties to terrorism and extremist views through U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  I’m proud of the Trump Administration for living up to the promises made along the campaign trail and their efforts to root out abuse, fraud and items that are clearly a poor use of your hard-earned tax dollars. President Trump and Congress have a mandate from voters to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse.  USAID has been unaccountable to taxpayers for decades. I have every confidence that Secretary Rubio, who is now overseeing the agency, will ensure its funding is aligned with the core national interests of the United States.  We will restore fiscal sanity!

Our country’s rich manufacturing history has been a cornerstone of the American economy - driving entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic growth. New consumer-facing artificial intelligence applications have transformed manufacturing in recent years. In last week’s Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade Subcommittee hearing, we examined how we can secure American leadership in the next generation of manufacturing by fostering innovation, strengthening supply chains, and promoting a skilled workforce.  Click here to listen to my comments during the hearing.

It was also great to meet with Dr. Jesse Pissors, President of Pasco-Hernando State College, and his team.  We discussed the important role PHSC plays in equipping students with the skills needed to succeed.  The state college system is an important engine that drives economic growth and strengthens our regional workforce.

Additionally, we need to remove unnecessary regulatory barriers that keep Florida Farmers from being able to compete and thrive.  My colleagues and I are working on legislation that gets us one step closer to achieving that goal. Click here to learn more about our efforts.

Honoring our Heroes:  Last week, we passed two measures to help combat Veteran homelessness.  No Veteran who honorably served our country should experience homelessness and these bills get us one step closer to achieving that goal.

I also had the chance to attend Citrus County’s annual Purple Heart Breakfast.  I am so grateful for the service and sacrifice of these local heroes. I was also proud to recognize my constituent and friend, Major John McGee, with an extension of remarks in the Congressional Record congratulating him for being inducted into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame.

Protecting Consumers:  Without costing taxpayers a dime, my TICKET Act will improve transparency in the entertainment ticketing industry and help protect consumers.  Click here to learn more about this bill.

Preserving AM Radio: In order to maximize public safety and ensure continued access to every available option, it is critical to have a robust and widely accessible communication infrastructure in place to alert Americans during emergency situations and natural disasters.  Radio broadcast, such as our own WFLA, still has one of the highest reaches of any medium, and with a majority of listening taking place outside of the home.  I’m working to ensure this useful tool remains a readily available option for all Americans.  Click here to learn more about my efforts.

Celebrating Success:  It was truly an honor to receive the Congressional Champion Award from the National Community Development Association, a strong group of talented professionals that work tirelessly to maximize federal resources and support thriving, sustainable and affordable communities throughout the country.  Together, we are working in a collaborative manner to help seniors, Veterans and other vulnerable populations.

Community Connection

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.

My team attended the unveiling of the time capsule treasures in Port Richey as part of the City's Centennial Celebration!

My team also attended the 2025 Pasco County Fire Cadet Graduation Ceremony.  We look forward to having these newest first responders protecting our community!

Additionally, my team enjoyed celebrating volunteerism and public service during this year's Soaring Eagle Award in Citrus County.

Constituent Corner

My team recently received this note after helping with an immigration issue.

This  is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
