John,
Private equity billionaires are getting richer from destroying businesses that provide jobs and are centers of our communities. And their influence is only growing.
According to our new report, Private Equity, Public Damage, these firms are sitting on nearly $1 trillion in investor cash, ready to buy up even more companies, gut them for short-term profits, and leave workers, tenants, and patients to suffer the consequences.
In housing, these billionaires have bought up over a million rental units, jacking up rents and forcing families out of their homes. Mobile home parks, where many seniors and working-class families live, have been a prime target, with private equity landlords raising rents by 69% while neglecting maintenance and aggressively evicting tenants.
In healthcare, when private equity takes over a hospital, patient deaths rise by 10%, infection rates soar, and medical costs skyrocket.
Wall Street and corporate lobbyists will fight tooth and nail to protect this corrupt system. They’ve already spent nearly $10 million lobbying Congress to keep their tax breaks intact. They want to keep using our tax code as a weapon to funnel wealth upward, leaving workers, patients, and families to pay the price. We have to stop them.
Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund is fighting to close the carried interest loophole, which allows private equity billionaires to pay a lower tax rate than teachers and firefighters. We’re fighting to strengthen IRS enforcement against wealthy and corporate tax cheats. And we’re demanding a fair tax code that forces billionaires to pay their share.
Our research and activism―demanding congressional action to hold the wealthy accountable and fight back against a billionaire takeover of the federal government―is only possible with you by our side.
Donate today to take on the private equity billionaires and demand a tax system that works for the people, not the ultra-rich.

John,
One of the most ruthless, predatory industries in America, private equity, now controls 1 in 5 U.S. companies. These firms buy up businesses, strip them for parts, fire workers, slash wages, and leave destruction in their wake.
And while working families struggle with the fallout, private equity barons are cashing in because our broken tax code rewards them for it.
Now, our new report, Private Equity, Public Damage, exposes the shocking ways this industry thrives off destruction. Companies taken over by private equity are ten times more likely to go bankrupt than those that aren’t. Why? Because these billionaires load them up with debt, squeeze out profits through dividend payouts, and leave the wreckage for workers to deal with.
Private equity’s reach extends into some of the most vulnerable parts of our economy: healthcare, housing, and even nursing homes. When private equity takes over a hospital, patient deaths rise by 10%, infection rates soar, and medical costs skyrocket. In one case, a private equity firm siphoned off $658 million from a hospital system while its facilities crumbled, mold spread in patient rooms, and basic medical supplies ran out.
And here’s the kicker: Our tax code makes all of this even more profitable. The carried interest loophole allows private equity billionaires to pay a lower tax rate than teachers and firefighters. They also exploit an interest-deduction loophole that lets them write off massive debts used to fund their corporate takeovers.
This is a rigged system. But we can fight back. Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund is leading the charge to close private-equity tax loopholes, expose corruption, and demand accountability from Congress. But we can’t do it without you.
At a time when billionaires are taking over our government from within, we are fighting back with activism, research, and resolve. Donate today to fight back against the billionaire takeover.
