Dear John,
Republicans in Washington ruthlessly slashed $1 billion in federal funding for fresh, American grown produce for schools and food banks.
The shuttering of these programs will not only hurt farmers across the country, but leave food banks and schools scrambling to make ends meet. (And no, egg prices haven’t really gone down.) This move is all but guaranteed to devastate our friends, families and neighbors. It should be a wake-up call for all of us.
Now is the time for us to step up, as Republican politicians continue to let us down. You can make a difference in your community and help ensure that your local food banks are stocked and students have nutritious meals on their plates.
Here’s how you can get involved now:
- Call Your Representatives: Reach out to your local representatives and express your disapproval of these cuts! Demand the restoration of funding that ensures our schools have access to healthy, locally sourced food. Share your stories to highlight why this matters!
- Volunteer with Local Food Banks: Food banks are in urgent need of support. Step up — volunteer your time to help feed families or organize a food drive. Every effort makes a difference! Find your local food bank here.
- Engage Your Community: Join community events to raise awareness and encourage civic engagement. Mobilize your networks to rally support for our food programs and bring attention to this pressing issue. If you want to get involved check out our volunteer toolkit, or respond to this email with any questions and to learn more.
Together, we can protect the well-being of our children and support local agriculture while reinforcing our commitment to a thriving, community-driven democracy.
Thank you for standing strong.
In solidarity,
The Union
