The Senate is getting ready to vote on a rushed funding bill that would essentially give Donald Trump and Elon Musk the authority to consolidate more power and slash critical programs and agencies at their will –– and we must do what we can to stop them.

This bill, intended to fund the federal government until the end of the fiscal year, poses huge, long-term consequences to the millions of Americans who rely on public services every day by imposing dangerous cuts. Instead of expanding these vital programs, the threat of a government shutdown is being used as leverage to force these cuts and un-American policies –– all at the expense of our communities.

Urge your senator to vote “NO” on this extreme bill.

Here is what is at stake if this resolution passes:

• Trump and Musk would continue to have unchecked power to slash agencies and programs that millions of people rely on –– including Medicare and Medicaid.

• Cuts to rent assistance and homelessness support during a time when housing costs are skyrocketing, and families are struggling to make ends meet.

• Severe cuts to medical research and maternal and child health programs.

• A $40 million slash to election security funding, crippling an already underfunded service.

• Dangerously underfunded disaster relief with a sweeping $1.4 billion cut to the Army Corps of Engineers construction projects that mitigate impacts of hurricanes and floods.

• Substantial increases for ICE funding to facilitate inhumane mass detentions and deportations of undocumented immigrants and certain immigrants with lawful status, including lawful permanent residents.

• A shrink in the District of Columbia’s budget by $1.1 billion, delivering a devastating blow to the city’s residents and potentially forcing layoffs to first responders, police officers, teachers and bus and rail service workers –– all while doing nothing to save federal dollars since these services are paid for entirely by D.C. taxes and fees.

Americans deserve to live without the constant fear of losing access to health care, housing or other critical services that meet their everyday needs.
