Kimberly here. When I decided to run for U.S. Senate, I had no idea what would happen. I stepped out in faith, hoping something or someone would be there when it felt like I was walking out into thin air and I might fall.
You have always been there when I felt discouraged or down; you’ve always lifted me up. For that, I will never be able to thank you enough. Thank you. Regardless of Tuesday’s outcome, I will never forget your kind words and that you gave your hard-earned money to support our campaign over this past year.
But we have one more important day remaining in this primary! We’re still pushing to get our message out to all Iowans. We have a Get Out The Vote plan underway, so we still need the financial support to fully implement it.
There’s one more thing I have to say in this email in the wake of the horrific murder of Mr. George Floyd in Minneapolis and the resulting protests. I want to say I have not done enough to be more than an ally in the fight for racial justice. Whatever I was doing, it wasn’t enough. I -- we -- must become accomplices for racial justice, not just allies.
I invite all my white brothers and sisters to do something more than you’ve been doing. Whether it’s joining your local NAACP branch, reading The New Jim Crow, attending protests or calling out a friend when they make a racist comment -- whatever it looks like -- we must all do more. Above all else, listen. Listen closely to our black sisters and brothers.
We will all make mistakes, say the wrong thing, or do the wrong thing in our efforts to work for racial justice. That’s ok. We must keep working at it, even if we mess up sometimes. We must step out in faith in this work, just as I stepped out in faith to run for office.
And we must elect leaders who realize more MUST be done for racial justice in our nation and who are willing to do the work. I appreciate your help in getting us over the finish line so I can take this fight to the U.S. Senate.
