Last week, I made a decision I’ve never made in my 16 years in Congress. For the first time ever, I refused to attend the State of the Union.

I simply couldn’t, in good conscience, sit in that chamber while Trump and Musk brag about dismantling our democracy, punishing civil servants, and putting the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans at risk. These are not normal times, and this moment demands more than business as usual.

But skipping the speech wasn’t just about making a statement — it was about taking action. And I didn’t sit on the sidelines.

This past week, I launched a government-wide investigation into Musk’s infiltration of federal agencies. While Musk claims his actions are “maximally transparent,” the truth is Congress and the American people have been kept in the dark. I’m demanding answers. I also led 141 of my colleagues in calling for every unlawfully fired federal worker to be reinstated immediately. Trump and Musk’s mass firings have devastated countless families, and I won’t stop until justice is served.

I introduced two Resolutions of Inquiry — one to expose Musk’s corruption and conflicts of interest, and another to investigate Trump’s efforts to embed political loyalists in government who will turn a blind eye to their grift. These are some of the strongest investigative tools Congress has, and I am not hesitating to use them.

This is exactly what Trump and Musk don’t want — oversight, accountability, and the truth coming to light. That’s why they’re doing everything they can to silence me and ramping up their attacks.
