In just a few weeks, Wisconsin will hold what may be the most important
election of 2025.

This is a state race for a crucial seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court,
but it has national implications because Wisconsin is one of the most
important swing states that decides presidential elections.

This is also a race that could decide the fate of abortion rights, free
and fair elections, and even the presidential outcome in 2028.

Judge Susan Crawford is a good, ethical judge, with progressive
credentials, running for a pivotal seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

But she's up against a flood of right-wing money from Elon Musk and
anonymous Republican donors, who are supporting her far-right
Trump-aligned MAGA opponent.

With less than 25 days left, time is of the essence. Because going door to
door, making calls, sending text messages, going up on the airwaves, and
everything else that needs to happen for Judge Crawford to win this

It's no exaggeration to say that billionaire Elon Musk is trying to BUY
Wisconsin's Supreme Court.

* He may have already bought himself the presidency, pouring $290
million into electing Donald Trump.^1
* He's pouring money into right-wing politics in Europe, including
Germany's far-right party.^2
* And now, Musk has has already dumped millions into supporting Judge
Crawford's opponent, Brad Schimel—a former Republican attorney general
who will rubber-stamp the MAGA agenda.^3

Musk's PAC is saturating Wisconsin with attack ads—and is even sending
paid canvassers door to door telling people to vote for Schimel to
"protect President Trump's agenda."^4

The Wisconsin Democratic Party called it out bluntly: "Elon Musk is out of
control, and now this power-hungry billionaire is unloading millions to
buy the Wisconsin Supreme Court."^5

They even launched a "People v. Musk" ad campaign to warn voters.^6

We can't let a right-wing billionaire and Trump's allies hijack
Wisconsin's Supreme Court. The stakes are just too high, for these
reasons:

* Abortion rights are on the line. Wisconsin still has an 1849
near-total abortion ban on the books. A lawsuit to overturn that ban
will soon be in front of the state Supreme Court.^7 If Susan Crawford
wins, we have a real chance to overturn the ban and protect
reproductive freedom for millions of people in the state. On the other
hand, if her opponent wins, you can bet he'll uphold this cruel law.
* Voting rights and fair elections are at stake. Wisconsin was the
tipping point in 2020. The state Supreme Court—by just one
vote—stopped an attempt to overturn the presidential results.^8 That
was with a conservative court at the time, and it was a close call,
just 4-3. If we lose this seat, the court could fall back into
more-conservative hands before 2028. Imagine Trump (or another MAGA
candidate) losing Wisconsin in 2028 and a MAGA-packed court ready to
entertain baseless challenges. We could see the will of the voters
overturned. And we cannot count on the U.S. Supreme Court to protect
our democracy.
* And we must protect a judicial firewall against the MAGA agenda, which
does not value the rule of law. Brad Schimel, Judge Crawford's
opponent, is as partisan as they come. He literally announced his
campaign by saying he'd "take back the court" to advance the
far-right's priorities.^9 If he wins, you can kiss goodbye to the
court's checks on gerrymandering, voter suppression, and attacks on
workers' rights. The ultra-rich and extremist groups will have
succeeded in installing their hand-picked justice.

Judge Crawford stands for progressive values. She's been a fearless
advocate for justice—a judge who has defended voting rights, fought for
women's health care, and stood up for working families.^10

As a lawyer, she took on powerful interests to protect everyday people.
And a Supreme Court justice, she'll fight for an independent court that
upholds people's rights—not one that does the bidding of Trump or Musk.
She's earned endorsements from dozens of judges (including every liberal
justice currently on Wisconsin's Supreme Court) because they know she is
fair, qualified, and principled.^11,12

MoveOn members know the power of grassroots activism. In 2023, we saw how
turning out voters in Wisconsin delivered a huge victory for progressives,
flipping the court for the first time in 15 years.^13 Now, Elon Musk and
MAGA Republicans are throwing everything at us to take it back. Not on our
watch.

This is a fight MoveOn members were built for. When billionaires like Elon
Musk try to buy our courts, it's up to us show them that the power of the
people is stronger. When women's rights and democracy are on the chopping
block, it's up to us step up to defend them.
