Please join me in congratulating Gulfport Councilmember-Elect Marlene Shaw and Boynton Beach Mayor-Elect Rebecca Shelton on their victories last night! Marlene’s win was a red-to-blue flip, as she defeated a Republican incumbent. Rebecca won with a resounding 56% of the vote, defeating three other candidates.
We are so proud of all the hard work that it took to win these seats. These women are two of the first candidates to receive Ruth’s List Florida’s endorsement in 2025, and their victories are a promising start to this election cycle!
The results of “small” local elections have major impacts on individual residents and theyshape the futures of our cities and towns. We are committed to electing more women leaders to local government who represent our values and will lead their communities responsibly.
Yesterday, Boynton Beach elected a woman to serve as Mayor for the first time in over three decades. Also yesterday, a Republican City Councilmember of over a decade lost her seat to a proudly pro-choice woman who is ready to put the needs of her community first. Today, we’re reminded that change is possible and, of course, that #She’sTheChange!
