1) GOP Could Win Major Spending Victory
The New York Times laid out ([link removed]) the main argument from the left against the House-passed full-year CR like this:
House Democratic leaders pressed their members to oppose the legislation, contending that it would enable the White House’s effort to drastically reduce federal spending without consulting Congress. Unlike regular spending bills, temporary extensions do not explicitly direct how the federal funding levels that lawmakers set should be allocated.
That would give the Trump administration broader discretion over large sums of money at a time when the president has already moved aggressively to block the government from disbursing funds authorized by Congress for a variety of programs.
This makes fiscal and common sense. No CEO of a private company would ever spend money needlessly just because it was “in the budget.” But that’s what the president is required to do.
That makes no sense given that we are losing $2 trillion a year.
With Russ Vought's fiscal hawks at OMB working with Elon's DOGE teams to identify and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse, a full-year CR means they can much more easily shift funding than under more restrictive appropriations bills.
The House Freedom Caucus explained:
[link removed]
The top Democrat on House Appropriations, Rosa DeLauro said ([link removed]) : "This bill is a blank check for Elon Musk and President Trump, and—as the White House has said—it creates more flexibility for this Administration."
We can’t understand why progressives are in favor of wasting money.

2) Trumponomics Is Bullish for Stocks
That may seem an odd thing to say given that we’ve all lost a lot of money during this big stock market selloff. And yes, a lot of the sell off is due to the global skirmishes resulting from Trump tariff threats. A lot of the economic slowdown in Q1 of 2025 is also due to the residual hangover effects of Bidenomics.
But almost everything else on the Trump agenda - tax cuts, deregulation, pro-energy policies, DOGE, school choice expansion, etc. - aside from the tariffs is bullish for the markets.
We know this from Trump’s first term performance. As the chart reminds us, in four short years, the Nasdaq doubled, the S&P rose by 70%, and the Dow by more than 50%.

3) Poll: 40% of Americans STILL Fear COVID
Have we become a nation of hypochondriacs?
The latest Gallup Poll disturbingly finds there has been zero movement on the public's belief that the pandemic is over. The same 40% who said it wasn't over on the fourth anniversary of the lockdowns, still say it at year five:
[link removed]
When do they expect to return to normal life? For many of our leftist friends, the answer may be…never.
[link removed]
Last year, we marked the fourth anniversary of lockdown with the release of a report detailing the key policy blunders of our pandemic response: COVID Lessons Learned. We fear that for almost half of Americans the lessons STILL haven’t been learned.

4) Massachusetts Governor Healey Mugged by Reality
The hypocrisy of climate-obsessed elected officials knows no bounds.
When Maura Healey campaigned for Massachusetts governor in 2022 she bragged that as Attorney General: "Remember, I stopped two gas pipelines from coming into this state."
As governor, the next year she ordered a transition away from natural gas and set a goal of making Massachusetts carbon-neutral by 2050.
Now, Massachusetts has an energy crisis because not enough natural gas is being piped into the state to meet growing needs. That is forcing a reliance on expensive imported LNG.
So Governor Healey is complaining how difficult it is to meet natural gas demand because “we don’t even produce it here…and it’s hard for us to get it here.”
What will it take for out-to-lunch elected officials to get the basic rules of supply and demand into their head?

5) Reagan on Free Trade Goes Viral
This is the video that the New York Post reports ([link removed]) is going viral:
[link removed]
Free trade serves the cause of economic progress, and it serves the cause of world peace. When governments get too involved in trade, economic costs increase and political disputes multiply. Peace is threatened. In the 1930s, the world experienced an ugly specter, protectionism and trade wars, and eventually, real wars and unprecedented suffering and loss of life. There are some who seem to believe that we should run up the American flag in defense of our markets. They would embrace protectionism again and insulate our markets from world competition. For the last time the United States tried that, there was enormous economic distress in the world. World Trade fell by 60%, and young Americans soon followed the American flag into World War II. I'm old enough and hopefully wise enough not to forget the lessons of those unhappy years.
The world must never live through such a nightmare again. We're in the same boat with our trading partners. If one partner shoots a hole in the boat, does it make sense for the other one to shoot another hole in the boat? Some say yes and call that getting stuff. Well, I call it stupid. We shouldn't be shooting holes. We should be working together to plug them up. We must strengthen the boat of free markets and fair trade so it can lead the world to economic recovery and greater political stability…
And no one should mistake our determination to use our full power and influence to prevent others from destroying the boat and sinking us all. That's how the United States is working in the world on behalf of freedom, economic prosperity, and peace.
