Dear Friend,
I'm writing with urgency
about an issue hitting every Ohioan right in the
wallet.
Right
now, you're paying extra on your electric bill to prop up coal plants
built in the 1950s
You read that correctly.
Every single day, Ohio families and businesses are forced to pay
$445,000 to subsidize the Ohio Valley Electric Corporation (OVEC) –
aging, unprofitable coal plants that include one that's not even in
our state!
In the first half of 2025
alone, these corporate bailouts will cost Ohioans approximately $80.6
million. That's money that should be staying in your pocket.
We have a chance to
finally end these bailouts that were part of the corrupt House Bill 6
scandal
The Ohio legislature is
currently crafting major energy legislation (House
Bill 15 and Senate Bill 2) that could finally end these costly
subsidies. These bills would:
- Repeal the OVEC coal plant subsidies.
- Stop utilities from adding expensive projects to consumer bills
without proper review. Currently, utilities can add charges through
"Electric Security Plans" with minimal oversight.
- Create the school energy efficiency loan program that issues loans
to public schools for the purposes of improving energy efficiency in
schools.
This is critical
progress that we need to protect and strengthen.
We must ensure the OVEC
repeal stays in the final legislation - these unnecessary subsidies
are taking money directly from Ohio consumers every month.
Please Take action
TODAY

It will take two
minutes to email your legislators using our email tool. Please feel free to
edit the letter using your own words.
The utilities have teams of
lobbyists working the halls of the Statehouse every day pushing to
keep these costly subsidies. They're counting on your silence.
Don't let them win. Your action today could help end these
unfair charges on your electric bill and protect your hard-earned
money. This is about fairness for Ohio consumers and
putting an end to corporate bailouts that hurt your pocketbook.
Thank you for standing up for Ohio ratepayers!

amplify the voices of Ohioans. Thank you!
