John,
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act is a dangerous attack on our vote that could threaten more than 20 million eligible voters. If signed into law, the SAVE Act would impose strict new voter registration requirements, including:
❌ Requiring every voter to register or update their registration in person.
❌ Mandating proof of citizenship with documents many Americans don't have easy access to, like a passport or birth certificate that matches their current name.
❌ Eliminating voter registration by mail.
❌ Shutting down voter registration drives.
❌ Eliminating online voter registration.
These restrictions would silence millions of voters — especially young voters, Black and Brown voters, women, rural voters, and more.
WHAT MAKES THIS BILL SO DANGEROUS?
🔴 More than 140 million American citizens do not have a passport.
🔴 Women are far more likely to change their names after marriage — nearly 69 million compared to just 4 million men — yet outdated registration rules could now stand between them and the ballot box. See the problem?
🔴 Many voters — especially in marginalized communities — lack easy access to citizenship documents due to cost, distance, or lost records.
John, this bill does not “save” anything. It is being pushed under false claims of voter fraud to justify an anti-voter agenda. The goal? To silence voters and make it harder for our communities to have a say in the decisions that impact our lives — like healthcare, jobs, and economic security.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The SAVE Act will head to the floor for a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. If approved, it will advance to the U.S. Senate, requiring 60 votes to pass. If it clears the Senate, it will go to the president to be signed into law. We cannot let that happen. Here’s what you can do right now:
