Dear John,

Some local councils have cut back care services in the middle of this public health emergency – leaving people without basic support.

The Government allowed these vital services to be stripped away in preparation for this pandemic.

Why should people who need social care be forced to carry another burden during a national health crisis?

This is a step too far.

If this is happening in your area, to you or someone you know, please get in touch with Liberty today. Any information you can provide will help us make sure the Government and councils protect everyone’s rights at this crucial time.

Earlier this month, Liberty and Disability Rights UK discovered at least seven councils (Birmingham, Coventry, Derbyshire, Solihull, Staffordshire, Sunderland and Warwickshire) had stopped carrying out detailed assessments of people’s needs and were delaying or reducing care provision. And there may be more we just don’t know about yet.

Their actions could mean that older and disabled people are left without vital support during the pandemic.

And it could open the door to more widescale stripping back of safeguards which protect anyone relying on care and their carers.

We’re gathering evidence on councils reducing these services during this crisis. If this has happened to you or someone you know, we want to hear from you.
