John, I’m grateful.
As the DNC’s email director, I know as well as anyone that we’ve been coming into your inbox a lot lately, asking you to support Democrats ahead of our May FEC deadline.
I’ll explain why in a moment -- but first, let me say thank you. Thanks to over 157,654 grassroots Democrats, we hit our fundraising goal for the month, ensuring we and the Biden campaign head into June as strong as possible.
Now, here’s why that’s so important:
May was effectively the first full month of the general election. Things are getting down to brass tacks fast.
We know our candidate at the top of the ticket (hi, Joe Biden!), and how his candidacy shapes our map in November. Our party has been working up to this moment for three years, and we’re confident in the investments we’re making in organizing, data, and technology are the right ones.
From here, it comes down to two variables: Scale and execution. And that’s where grassroots Democrats like you -- yes, you John! -- play such an important role.
That’s because your passion, your enthusiasm, your generosity, and your commitment to this fight determines just how big and how strong we can go in November. That’s true of everything from our volunteer network, to our organizing prowess, to our ability to amplify our message and reach the right voters.
So, when we have good months like the one we did in May, it gives me hope.
It means we’ve earned your trust -- and that’s pretty damn important, both for victory this fall and for the future of our party. We know our party is strongest when it’s accountable to the grassroots, and that means we’re going to do everything we can to keep and build on that trust in the months and years to come.
If you’re like me, November feels simultaneously around the corner and a lifetime away. There’s so much to be done between now and then -- but I feel confident we’ll rise to this occasion as this team always has.
