Team, Republicans just passed the stopgap 'Continuing Resolution' budget through the House of Representatives. While we're still waiting on the Senate to approve and finalize the Continuing Resolution, it looks like this budget will go through. 

We've avoided a government shutdown for now, but this budget is going to be extremely harmful. It'll cut billions from vital programs and services while granting Trump (and Elon Musk) unprecedented abilities to direct federal spending.

While this is a tough loss, our fight is far from over. EnviroVoters is committed to moving climate progress forward in the absence of national leadership—and we want you on our team, friend.

Every California Republican in the House voted in favor of this Continuing Resolution. That means that if your House Representative is Doug LaMalfa (CA-1), Kevin Kiley (CA-3), Vince Fong (CA-20), David Valadao (CA-22), Jay Obernolte (CA-23), Young Kim (CA-40), Ken Calvert (CA-41), or Darrell Issa (CA-48), your voice in the federal government just voted to make you poorer, sicker, and less safe so they can put more money in the hands of the ultra-wealthy like Elon Musk.

We're approaching a government shutdown at the end of the week.

In December, President Biden signed a stopgap spending bill to keep the government open while Congress builds out a new budget. That 'Continuing Resolution' bill expires on March 14–which means that Congress is now rushing to get a budget approved. 

Last week, their framework proposing trillions of dollars in federal funding cuts to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy passed. But it'll take weeks to write out all of the details—weeks that Congress doesn't have, because the stopgap bill expires on Friday. 

Now Congressional Republicans are trying to pass another Continuing Resolution before the shutdown. This one would cut funding for nondefense programs and services by $13 billion and remove normal spending guardrails, giving the White House (and Elon Musk) unprecedented power to decide how federal money gets spent. The cuts proposed will cripple funding for health, education, and environmental protection—making us all poorer, sicker, and less safe.

Join your community of EnviroVoters to email your Congressional Representatives and ask them to protect essential programs by voting NO on the Continuing Resolution.

Trump is already threatening to withhold $40 billion in federal funding from California wildfire victims, and putting him in charge of federal spending will only make it worse. The proposed Continuing Resolution already targets California's water programs specifically, along with cutting federal protections for climate, transportation, and agriculture. 

With Republicans refusing to take care of all American citizens, California's going to have to pick up the bill on the state level to make sure Californians get the care they need. That will come at a steep cost, forcing our state to cut some essential programs of our own. Climate programs are typically the first on the chopping block—despite being our communities' main protection from imminent climate disaster.

This is concerning to us, and I bet it's concerning to you, friend. That's why we're asking our community of EnviroVoters to join us in standing up against these program cuts.
