Current working realities while moving forward with prevention. Hello, John! Here is your monthly update from Prevention First about programs, training, resources and prevention news from trusted sources. “The only constant in life is change” - Heraclitus As we return to work and begin this “new normal” in our workplace, we understand that you may be concerned about safety as well as the changes to policies and procedures that we have implemented. We assure you that we are taking your concerns and well-being seriously. We are taking precautions to ensure our workplace is safe. We are following federal health and safety guidelines as well as guidance from our state and local governments. We are implementing practices such as social distancing, increased cleaning and disinfecting of common areas, self-screening questionnaires for employees and visitors, limiting capacity of meeting rooms, and utilizing face coverings whenever social distancing is not possible. Our training policies have also been modified to align with state guidelines for social distancing. We look forward to seeing you soon in our Springfield and Chicago locations. SYSTEM UPGRADE NOTIFICATION Study Hall, our online course training system, is being upgraded to a new platform. As a result, online courses will be inaccessible on June 4th and 5th. Thank you for taking these steps to capture your online training history. We are excited for you to experience our redesigned website and a new online training system! Social Host Ordinances Studies indicate that social host laws are among the most effective and recommended ways to reduce underage drinking. Social host liability laws hold individuals who knowingly provide or allow the use of alcohol by minors or intoxicated adults liable for resulting property damage, injury, death or violation fines. While in Illinois state social host laws exist, there are gaps that can be addressed at the local level. Municipal ordinances can establish fines to recoup costs incurred in dealing with the consequences of underage drinking, such as emergency services and law enforcement. The Alcohol Policy Resource Center at Prevention First is here to assist you, your coalition, and your community identify the issues as well as how to pass a successful ordinance. We have a directory of Municipal Ordinances including Social Host. You can also download a Social Host Fact Sheet and a Local Alcohol Social Host Ordinance resource guide. The APRC can provide Technical Assistance on Alcohol Social Host Ordinances. If you have any questions, please contact Kellie Henrichs or Jody Heavilin.
