By Shoshanna Ehrlich | John Mullin is the founder of the nonprofit Spending Spotlight, which is seeking to rally progressive consumers to redirect their individual spending patterns to counter the influence of corporate spending on right-wing causes. Recognizing, as he explained, that as a resident of Seattle, his “elected officials [were] already doing things on these issues that are in alignment with what I would like to see happen,” such that his vote was not “actually making a huge difference,” Mullin began to consider the idea of “voting” through the redirection of consumer dollars.
Mullin and his small volunteer team developed a strategically targeted plan for how consumers can shift their spending away from “companies using their dollars against our rights and freedoms.”

United Nations Population Fund | When a war forcibly displaces tens of thousands of people, UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, equips displacement camps and medical personnel with critical supplies—including condoms, oral and injectable contraceptives, contraceptives implants and intrauterine devices.
When an earthquake tumbles whole city blocks, UNFPA puts contraceptives onto emergency relief convoys, alongside kits for delivering babies and medicines to stop internal bleeding.
When a cyclone slashes through remote island communities, UNFPA sends contraceptives just as it sends sterile medical equipment.
Why? Because contraceptives are part of life-saving humanitarian care.

By Amy Shearn | As the GOP ramps up its culture war, no-fault divorce is emerging as its latest target, with conservative politicians and activists calling for its restriction or elimination. While no-fault divorce has been law in all 50 states since 2010, its repeal would disproportionately harm women—especially survivors of domestic violence—by making it harder to leave unsafe or unhappy marriages. Framing divorce as “too easy,” right-wing leaders are pushing a regressive agenda that prioritizes traditional family structures over women’s autonomy and safety.
