John, after the devastating wildfires in Southern California earlier this year, No Kid Hungry immediately responded to help provide emergency assistance to those in need.
Just a couple weeks ago, our CEO, Anne Filipic, traveled to Los Angeles to get a firsthand look at the work our LA Wildfire Response Fund is supporting. You are the reason this work is possible, and that’s why I wanted to share an update about the direct impact of your support for families affected by this disaster.
At Foothill Unity Center in Monrovia, people line up for food distribution efforts that No Kid Hungry’s recent grant is supporting. Foothill Unity’s vision statement affirms that “all are treated with love and dignity ... all the time.” This vision is evident in every staff member and volunteer at the center.
At the pediatric clinic of the AltaMed Health Services network, young patients and families rely on our support for food essentials. The staff members recently lost their own clinic in the fires, but they told Anne that while their grief and loss are profound, their love, hope and commitment to their community are even greater.
At Los Angeles Unified School District, Anne met with school nutrition leaders who told her about the impact of the food truck No Kid Hungry has helped fund. So far, the truck has served an estimated 10,000 meals to students — and there are plans to acquire three more trucks in the coming months to expand our impact.
You are playing a vital role in supporting the Los Angeles community in their road to recovery, John. We are so grateful, especially in moments like these, for your support.
Thank you,
Karen Barr Team No Kid Hungry
P.S. If you’d like to help us reach even more kids with the meals they need, please make a donation now and fuel our ongoing mission to end childhood hunger once and for all.
