It’s Not a Myth

What to Know: Even as some call voter fraud a myth, the Heritage Foundation has documented 24 cases of fraud in Texas since 2015 (including seven involving absentee ballots).

The TPPF Take: Mail-in balloting involves greater risk to election integrity than in-person voting.

“Mail-in ballots are appropriate for many Texans, but they are not a cure-all for the challenges COVID-19 is creating for Texas elections,” says TPPF’s Ron Simmons. “Texans deserve to have confidence that their votes count, that they won’t be canceled out by ineligible ballots.”

Lots of Paths to Success

What to Know: What can colleges and universities learn form COVID-19 vaccine efforts? Multiple paths to success are better than a single path.

The TPPF Take: There’s a clear lesson here for higher education.

“When innovation is needed — and needed quickly — we shouldn’t put all our eggs in one basket,” says TPPF’s Andrew Gillen. “We must open up higher education to new providers that may be more innovative and flexible.”

Goodbye, Hong Kong

What to Know: Hong Kong no longer exists as an independent entity, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says.

The TPPF Take: We cannot wait to confront Communist China.

“Hong Kong, with its culture forged by the productive union of British rule of law and individual rights with Chinese entrepreneurship and diligence, may last another year or two,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “But the idea of Hong Kong is dead, killed by the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) insatiable quest for total control. The urgent task before our generation is to prevent a monstrous darkness from snuffing out freedom’s flame.”
