Hey, John!

Welcome back to What’s Happening with When We All Vote! Last month, we talked about how the headlines are heavy and the challenges ahead are real. That hasn’t changed. If anything, the stakes have only gotten higher. Across the country, we’re witnessing unprecedented attacks on voting rights and deliberate efforts to silence our voices. The right to vote — the very foundation of our democracy — is under threat, and we cannot afford to sit this moment out.

Today, we must turn our attention to the SAVE Act — a dangerous bill that puts the voting rights of millions of Americans at risk. If passed, it would impose harsh new voter registration requirements, making it harder — not easier — for people to participate in our democracy. This bill would:

- Require every voter to register or update their registration in person.
- Mandate proof of citizenship with documents that many don’t have easy access to.
- Eliminate key registration options like mail-in, online, and third-party voter registration drives.

Despite its name, the SAVE Act does not “save” anything. Email your members of Congress and urge them to vote NO on this bill. >>> [[link removed]]

Now, let’s take a look at what we’ve been up to:

🌟 In a major step for voting rights, last week, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act [[link removed]] was reintroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. This bill aims to restore key protections from the Voting Rights Act and prevent the voter suppression tactics that continue to threaten our democracy. The fight isn’t over, but this is a move in the right direction.

🌟 This past weekend, I joined thousands in Selma, Alabama, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday" — the moment that ignited the nation and led to the enactment of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. [[link removed]] Every year, the Jubilee is a recommitment through a march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to demand voting rights for all Americans and the urgency of action. It was great to see so many of our partners on the ground — like Black Voters Matter; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and Jack and Jill, to name a few — was immersed in a moment full of music, protest, and remembrance celebrating the movement’s resilience and the ongoing fight for justice. And in keeping with tradition, I crossed the bridge from Selma to Montgomery with other civil rights leaders, reaffirming why the fight for a fair democracy is just as important today as it was then.

🌟 Our My School Votes team is now hosting Office Hours — your one-stop shop for all things civic engagement! Whether you are a student, educator, administrator, or volunteer, we’ve got the tools, strategies, and support you need to organize and make an impact. Drop in every Wednesday from 4–6 PM ET — no appointment is needed, just bring your passion! [[link removed]]

As we navigate this critical moment for our democracy, remember that every action — big or small — moves us closer to the future we deserve. Whether you're making calls to Congress, registering to vote, or simply talking with friends and family about what's at stake, your voice matters. Let's keep pushing, keep organizing, and keep believing in the power of the people.

Til next time,
— Beth
