Recently you may have heard that DOGE and Elon Musk are demanding to inventory the gold that is held (hopefully) at Fort Knox.
 
The depository should hold just over 8000 metric tons of solid gold bars, representing more than half the US's gold holdings and worth around $300 billion dollars. 
 
But does it? After all the lies and waste that the DOGE has uncovered after just over a month, it's difficult to say. If it is found that any large portion of that gold is missing, it will rock our economy and also make the price of gold utterly skyrocket.
 
The reason world governments hold gold instead of cash as the larger portion of their wealth is because regardless of a country's currency and economic status, gold (and also silver) is always the same language, the same currency, and a safe way to make certain their holdings maintain fair value with every other country.
 
It's also the reason many preppers hold onto gold and silver. It isn't so much to use in the midst of an economic disaster or a SHTF event. It's to hold on to all that money you have so carefully saved over your lifetime to see yourself through retirement and hopefully to also have something to pass on to the next generation. After everything we've recently learned, do you really trust the banks? The Federal Reserve? The Social Security Administration?
