Dear friends,
It’s been three years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and talk of a truce must not overshadow the truth: the conflict continues to pose an alarming threat to press freedom. Indeed, since the war started, nearly 150 journalists have been the victims of Russian atrocities : 13 of them have been killed and at least 47 have been injured by Russian forces in Ukraine.
In the past three years, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has supported more than 1,900 journalists and 270 media outlets in Ukraine, notably through its Press Freedom Centres in Kyiv and Lviv. RSF Press Freedom Centres are set up during major crises to provide journalists and media outlets with the equipment, assistance and resources they need to continue informing the public as safely as possible (such as providing protective equipment, physical safety training and psychological support).
I support the actions of RSF ([link removed]〈=en_EN&reserved_origine=NLS111&utm_source=mailchimp&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter-S111)
Ukrainian media have been hard hit by the suspension of USAID: nine out of ten* of these media outlets depend on international subsidies, and USAID is the biggest donor. This suspension in funding risks opening the door to other sources of funding which could likely compromise the editorial line and independence of these outlets. This situation highlights the financial fragility of the sector, an issue RSF has long been tackling. An RSF report* released in October alerted the need for an economic recovery of Ukraine's independent media.
RSF aids and protects journalists in Ukraine and around the world — that’s our mission. And we’re able to do this thanks to your generosity. Just 100€ allows us to provide a journalist with a first-aid kit, helping them carry out assignments in conflict zones. Every donation counts!

Thank you for supporting us in this essential work.
