Dear Health Advocates,
Congress has until midnight on Friday, March 14 to avert a partial government shutdown by passing a continuing resolution (CR) to extend government funding. The House of Representatives plans to vote today on a six-month stop gap funding bill to fund the government through September 30th. This bill does not impact mandatory spending for Social Security, Medicaid or Medicare. However, by not increasing federal funding, it serves as a funding cut because of increased inflation.
Separately, work continues in the House and Senate behind the scenes on the budget reconciliation process. As you know, this process threatens to cut $880 billion in critical Medicaid funding. Senate and House Republican leadership continue to face hurdles when considering how best to move forward with this process, and the fight to avoid a government shutdown has added further strain. While the House and Senate are in recess next week, we must continue to encourage members of Congress to reject ANY cuts to Medicaid and hold them accountable to their word to do so. This week, there are a few opportunities to engage, including a sign on letter to Senate leadership. These opportunities are listed below:
- For Organizations
- For Individuals
