That’s the latest racist trope from MAGA extremists in response to my expressing serious safety concerns about Donald Trump potentially handing over the Federal Aviation Administration to Elon Musk and his company, SpaceX.

But of course, I’ve seen this before. I grew up in the Jim Crow South, where segregation and discrimination were a daily reality. When I was born, fewer than 1% of Black South Carolinians had the right to vote. Those experiences shaped my commitment to justice and equality.
