We find ourselves yet again on the verge of a Government shutdown. House Republicans have made it their prerogative to govern only to the extent that it appeases President Trump and Elon Musk. House Republicans are ready to hand this administration a blank check, threatening the well-being and livelihoods of countless hard working American families. This is not ok.

If passed, this Republican continuing resolution will gut rent subsidies that help tens of thousands of low-income and working Americans, including veterans, seniors, and survivors of domestic violence. It will clear the path to cut Social Security. It will cut funding for nondefense programs and services by $13B. It will cut the Army Corps of Engineers’ construction projects, which do things like manage flood risk, by $1.6B. It will also enable Elon Musk to direct government contracts to SpaceX and Starlink.

I urge my Republican colleagues to take a long hard look in the mirror, and ask themselves, “Will this help the American people?” Hardworking American families are struggling.
