John,
Donald Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) are pushing for a vote in the U.S. House today that would technically keep the government running, but would really just greenlight Elon Musk’s continued attacks on government agencies while cutting critical funding for some human needs programs.
As Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray said:1
“We cannot stand by and accept a yearlong power grab CR that would help Elon take a chainsaw to programs that families rely on and agencies that keep our communities safe.”
A vote for this government funding bill (continuing resolution) is a vote for cuts at a time that many in our communities are struggling with basic costs of living, and it is a vote to continue to allow Elon Musk and Donald Trump to tear apart the federal government by ignoring Congressional directives on how to spend appropriated funds.
Tell Congress to vote NO on this government funding bill this week.
VOTE NO
If the House of Representatives breaks the longstanding tradition of bipartisan spending bills and passes this partisan proposal today, the Senate will take up this CR as soon as tomorrow. Our members of Congress need to hear from you. Anyone who votes for this CR is aiding and abetting Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s attacks on government agencies and our communities.
Thank you for taking action today,

1"I'll never vote for chaos": Democrats split on a government shutdown over Trump-Musk lawlessness-- DEBORAH'S EMAIL --
John,
The partisan continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government running is expected to get a vote in the U.S. House tomorrow. But a vote for this CR is a vote for large-scale cuts to human needs programs and to continue indiscriminate firing of federal workers across the country including 6,000 veterans1―enabling Musk’s attacks on our government and on civil servants. At the same time, this flat funding bill harms our communities by failing to meet people’s increasing needs. Instead of a bipartisan government funding bill that prioritizes investments in human needs, this CR poses grave threats to our communities.
According to House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro, this government funding bill:2
-
Underfunds rent subsidies for low-income tenants by more than $700 million, which could lead to 32,000 households being evicted and homelessness services cut
-
Allows Musk and Trump to continue firing thousands of workers, including 7,000 from the Social Security Administration (about 12 percent of its workforce)
-
Gives Elon Musk and Donald Trump broad discretion to eliminate programs, including college preparation and health care programs that help underserved populations, as well as environmental programs
-
Provides nearly $10 billion to ICE to increase detention beds for immigrants, including families, with no oversight, potentially at the expense of combating illicit narcotics or human trafficking
-
Fails to ensure ongoing funding for veterans’ medical care and removes specific funding for homeless assistance, opioid and substance use, and other health programs for veterans, again allowing Trump and Musk to move funding from these services
Anyone who votes for this CR is aiding and abetting the Trump administration in its attacks on the services our communities need.
Send a message to your senators and representative right now, urging them to oppose a CR that allows Elon Musk and Donald Trump to continue to dismantle the federal government.
SIGN & SEND
Even if Congress passes a government funding bill, there are no guarantees that Musk and Trump will abide by congressionally approved funding requirements. Already this year we’ve seen the administration illegally freeze federal funding and fire thousands of government workers, which impacts everything from care for veterans to public education to the Social Security Administration and more. They’re even threatening to completely dissolve government agencies including the Department of Education and the Internal Revenue Service.
Donald Trump wants Congress to rubber stamp his agenda while providing no guarantees that he’d abide by Congress’ power of the purse. That means that even if Congress was to approve a government funding bill, and Trump signed it, his cronies would continue to ignore legally binding congressional appropriations.
And Republicans have indicated that they have no plans to hold the Trump administration accountable for its mismanagement of government funding.
Take action today and tell your members of Congress that a vote for this continuing resolution is a vote for harmful cuts to human needs programs and will allow Elon Musk and Donald Trump to continue to tear the government apart.
Thank you for taking action today.
