I’ve been proud to fight alongside New York State Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani for Palestinians’ human rights. As a state legislator, Zohran introduced the Not On Our Dime Act to stop New York’s charities from funding Israeli settler violence, and last November he led a hunger strike for a permanent ceasefire in front of the White House. I joined him:

Now Zohran is running for New York City mayor, an office that represents more people than most Senators do.

Polls show he’s in second place, with less than 4 months until the Democratic primary election. Unfortunately, he’s polling behind disgraced and corrupt former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who’s part of the legal team defending genocidal war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu. As Zohran said: “We need a mayor focused on the cost of living crisis, not defending a genocide.”

Throughout his career Zohran has fought for the working class, including hunger striking alongside taxi drivers to achieve more than $450 million in transformative debt relief, winning over $100 million in the state budget for increased subway service and a successful fare-free bus pilot, and organizing New Yorkers to defeat a proposed dirty power plant.

Zohran’s transformative vision for New York City includes universal childcare for residents, a rent freeze for over 2 million New Yorkers, free buses, and city-owned nonprofit grocery stores that provide residents with much more affordable groceries. With an understanding of how urgently people need change, Zohran is working toward a city and a world where everyone can live a dignified life, regardless of background, identity, or zip code.

Unfortunately, progressive champion Zohran Mamdani is currently polling behind former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who recently joined the race.

Cuomo’s name recognition might help him win—even though he has abused his power, cut public services, violated state ethics laws, illegally lied to Congress, tried to cover up his order that led to 15,000 deaths of seniors from COVID, and resigned in disgrace after New York’s Attorney General affirmed that he had “forcibly touched and sexually harassed 11 women in the workplace.”¹

Now, Cuomo is part of the legal team defending genocidal war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister. There couldn’t be a clearer contrast between Cuomo and Mamdani, who said: “We need a mayor focused on the cost of living crisis, not defending a genocide.”

As a New York State Assemblymember, Zohran Mamdani has fought for the working class and introduced first-in-the-nation legislation to stop NY charities from funding Israeli war crimes. In November 2023 he led a hunger strike in front of the White House demanding a permanent ceasefire, which I joined. His bold vision for NYC mayor includes universal free childcare, fast and free buses, freezing rent for more than two million rent-stabilized tenants, and starting nonprofit city-owned grocery stores that sell affordable groceries.

Later this week is Zohran Mamdani’s next filing deadline, when his campaign will release its fundraising numbers so far. It’s important to show strong continued support for this visionary candidate who’s fighting for a government that works for everyday people rather than billionaires.
