Puerto Escondido, Mexico has been nominated as the 14th World Surfing Reserve!

Puerto Escondido is home to some of the best beach breaks in the world, including Zicatela and Punta Colorada. Often referred to as the ‘Mexican Pipeline’, the wave is regarded as an international treasure.

The Puerto Escondido World Surfing Reserve will help protect legendary waves, like Zicatela and Punta Colorada, and preserve over 10 km of surf ecosystems in this iconic Mexican surf haven! 🌊🌴

Save The Waves has been working with local community organizations ([link removed]) to protect and steward key aspects of the region for several years. This local coalition has proposed a protection strategy for the mangrove ecosystem at Punta Colorada, addressed ongoing water quality and sewage issues, and sought out solutions to the sand flow and erosion issues at Zicatela.

The Puerto Escondido World Surfing Reserve is supported by an alliance of organizations including Salvemos Colorada, Costa Unida, SOS Puerto, and Fondo Oaxaqueño.

Save The Waves is proud to work alongside these amazing organizations and individuals to safeguard this paradise for generations to come!
