| Friend, Eliminating cancer research. Laying off thousands of government workers. Dismantling vital government entities, like tracking weather.(1) President Donald Trump has given Elon Musk carte blanche to do all of this in the name of eliminating waste. But Musk is absolutely not doing that.(2) He’s simply breaking the government. And his motives are clear: He wants to only enrich himself. Between Starlink, Telsa, and SpaceX, Musk has a web of federal government contracts that will only grow in size the more he dismantles the entire civil service. That’s why he must be stopped.
Musk’s joke of a project, the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, has no basis for the draconian cuts it’s exacting. And its purported success is unclear: the ‘department’ has had to backtrack on billions of dollars of supposed savings after reporters uncovered obvious accounting errors.(3) What’s more, it’s increasingly evident that Musk is trying to break everything to help himself. One news report showed the Trump State Department planned to award him a $400 million contract for “Armored Teslas,” then backdated the records to make it look like the contract had come from the Biden administration.(4) Other outlets found Musk trying to get the Federal Aviation Administration to cancel its existing communications contract and use his own Starlink instead.(5) These reports are almost certainly the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the $38 billion in contracts Musk’s companies have with the feds. There’s no chance Musk will police himself and disclose any conflicts between his businesses and DOGE. That's why we’re demanding an independent investigation into all of Musk’s contracts.
