FOUR democracy bills need your help, John

John,

Today, at the federal level and in many states, democracy and fair voting systems are under threat. This is not only bad for people, it’s bad for nature. At Washington Conservation Action, we strongly believe that voting justice is environmental justice. When everyone has access to the ballot, better policies for the planet result. That’s why we advocate for voting justice bills that make it easier to vote and that decrease voter suppression.

Four critical bills need your support now to be passed into law this year. Send a simple pre-written comment to your representatives by clicking the links below!

Even Year Elections (HB 1339) [[link removed]] - Would allow local elections in even years, when turnout is dramatically higher and more representative of our diverse communities.

Washington VOICES Act (HB 1448) [[link removed]] - Sets high implementation and education standards for jurisdictions that choose ranked-choice voting.

Washington Voting Rights Act: Preclearance (HB 1710) [[link removed]] - Implements a key element of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which the U.S. Supreme Court recently rolled back: Requires local governments with a history of voting rights violations to have their election changes vetted for discriminatory impacts before being implemented.

Washington Voting Rights Act: Reducing Voter Suppression (HB 1750) [[link removed]] - Strengthens our Washington Voting Rights Act by adding stronger protections against voter suppression especially amongst communities of color.

When more people participate in our democracy, we create the political conditions to make environmental progress a reality. Civic engagement advances environmental protection, the health of our communities, and a thriving economy. By working to remove obstacles to voting, we aim to empower everyone—especially those from historically marginalized communities—to influence policy decisions and to elect environmental champions.

We hope you’ll join us in taking bold action to improve our state’s democracy and voting systems!

Sincerely,

The Washington Conservation Action Political Team
