John: You should watch this important update on bills attacking student voting around the country --
Democracy Docket Video: New GOP Bills Target Student Voters [[link removed]]
Long story short -- we often talk about how opponents of voting rights try out a concept in one state and, if successful, export it to other states. This has been happening for years with things like the reduction of polling places to create long lines, the criminalization of so-called "line warming" (giving out water of food to people in long voting lines), and more.
Now, lawmakers in Montana and Indiana are pushing bills to make it harder for students to participate in elections by redefining residency requirements for voter registration and removing student ID cards as an accepted form of voter ID. This comes after similar bills were successfully passed in states like Texas.
Disenfranchising and suppressing votes anywhere hurts us everywhere, since it changes the makeup of Congress. We want you to know that we oppose these harmful residency requirements and changing to voter ID laws. And as a 100% grassroots-funded organization, we need your help to fight back in the states -- including Texas, Montana, and Indiana -- that are considering these bills or have passed these laws.

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
