Dear Comrades,

As we approach the conclusion of the 2025 New Mexico State Legislative Session on March 22, we have much to celebrate in our collective efforts toward social justice and community empowerment. Our dedication and advocacy have contributed to significant legislative progress that will positively impact our community.

I'm pleased to provide updates on key bills we have been advocating for:

• HB 9 – Immigrant Safety Act: Sponsored by Representatives Eleanor Chávez and Angelica Rubio, this bill aims to enhance protections for immigrants in our state. It has successfully passed the House and is currently under consideration in the Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee.

   

• HB 11 – Paid Family & Medical Leave Act: Introduced by Representative Christine Chandler, this legislation seeks to establish a comprehensive paid family and medical leave program. The bill passed the House on February 28 and is now awaiting review by the Senate Tax, Business, and Transportation Committee.

   

• SB 216: Repealing the ban on rent control - this bill was introduced on January 30 and has received a "Do Pass" recommendation from the Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee as of March 3. It is currently pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee. More on this later...

These legislative advancements reflect our shared commitment to creating a more equitable and supportive environment for all New Mexicans. Let's continue our efforts to ensure these bills become law and bring about the positive change we envision!
