Repeal of the ban on rent control ordinances has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee where it is expected to face a greater challenge moving forward.
Please contact committee chair, Joseph Cervantes, to get the bill on the committee meeting agenda. If you are represented by Senator Peter Wirth, please contact the Senator requesting he advocate for the bill to be heard and vote yes on SB216.
A bill expanding the authority of the Attorney General to enforce the New Mexico Unfair Practices Act to include housing, and another banning the use of AI and price setting algorithms in housing have passed their house committees and are now awaiting a vote on the house floor. Please contact your state representative and demand that they vote yes.
Expanding discrimination protections in housing to include source of income, HB339 has passed the House by a vote of 42-24. It has now been referred to the Senate Tax, Business and Transportation Committee. Please contact committee chair, Carrie Hamblen, and request the bill be heard. If you are represented by Senators Peter Wirth or Leo Jaramillo, please request that they advocate for the bill to be heard and vote yes.
