At our next Board of Supervisors meeting, I will be bringing forward a motion to repeal San Diego County’s extreme “Super Sanctuary” policy—a reckless measure that actively shields illegal immigrant criminals from deportation, even after committing horrific crimes.
Under this policy, local law enforcement is limited from cooperating with ICE when individuals commit violent felonies, including:
- Rape
- Child abuse and sexual exploitation
- Assault
- Burglary
- Gang-related crimes
- Hate crimes
- Stalking
- Elder abuse
- Kidnapping
- Arson
This means criminals who commit these appalling acts are more likely to be allowed to walk free in our communities—protected by County policy—with zero coordination with federal immigration enforcement.

A few months ago, I was the lone vote against this insanity. But now, Supervisor Nora Vargas—the architect of this policy—is no longer on the Board. The time to act is now.
We must restore law enforcement’s ability to communicate with ICE when these heinous crimes occur. Protecting criminals over the safety of our families is unacceptable. I will not stand by while our neighborhoods are made more dangerous by reckless policies.
