The Social Security Administration has been at the top of DOGE’s target list as they recklessly gut critical government departments. Across the country, they are closing offices and laying off workers responsible for helping our seniors gain their benefits. Here in the Hudson Valley, they are planning to shut down our Social Security office in Poughkeepsie – which was only supposed to be closed for “temporary renovations.”

And people are already feeling the hurt from DOGE’s cuts: increases in the wait time to speak to representatives, delays in reviews of disability claims and hearings, and phone back ups that are making it harder for staff to process retirement claims in a timely manner.

[link removed] [[link removed]]Look, these attacks are not a surprise after Elon called Social Security “the biggest Ponzi scheme ever” (a CRAZY thing to say to be clear) and we can anticipate this is just the beginning of the efforts to undermine this critical program.

Pat takes these attacks seriously and he’s taking real steps to push back by introducing the “Protecting Social Security Act”, which would make it clear once and for all: there will be no cuts, your benefits are protected, and they will be easily accessible, no matter where you live.

But this won’t be an easy fight, and it’s going to take a lot of people coming together to take a stand.
