John, shutdowns don't happen out of nowhere. As you may have heard, our government is quickly headed towards one and I wanted to reach out and explain why this is happening.

As an elected official, my number one priority has always been to be a voice for the people of Delaware. I've worked with Republicans all throughout my time in Congress; I've done what I needed to do to get the job done for Delawareans, because reaching across the aisle to make progress should not be controversial. But we find ourselves in unprecedented times.

The reality is that the GOP has ceded their duty to the American people in favor of service to Donald Trump. They are working overtime to slash Medicaid and other important programs, they are refusing to work with Democrats on the budget, and they are striving to find ways to give billionaires like Elon Musk the biggest tax breaks possible.

This is not how our government should work. If this shutdown goes through, people will suffer. Thousands of federal employees have already been laid off, a shutdown would force us to furlough thousands more and impact critical services like the postal service, Social Security, the military, and our national parks.

I am committed to getting our government funded and our country back on the right track. To do that, we need Republicans to work with us and remember their oath of office. Add your name if you agree: It’s time for Republicans to stop the political games and do their job to avoid a government shutdown.
