The GOP has cleared the way for trillions in tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy, while gutting essential safety net programs.
Two weeks ago, House Republicans rammed through a budget resolution that, if eventually passed, would slash more than $2 trillion in federal spending while giving the ultra-wealthy more than $4.5 trillion in new tax cuts.

Meanwhile, the House is considering a separate stop-gap bill to avoid a government shutdown in less than a week.
How would they complete these budget cuts? By gutting critical safety net programs like Medicaid, food assistance, and other essential programs that many Americans rely on — including the GOP’s own voters.
This tells us everything we need to know about who they're really working for, John. If the GOP truly gave a damn about “balancing budgets” and reducing waste in federal spending, they would reduce defense spending and *adequately* tax those with the most to give.
But that’s not what’s happening. Instead, they’ve decided to turn their backs on voters across the country.
Republicans will claim that they can “find cost-savings” without harming the benefits so many communities rely on. We know this is nothing more than a lie.
John, we know things feel grim right now. But we’re fighting back and could use your support. Your members of congress need to hear from you right now. Together, we can put pressure on them to act to stop these cruel cuts from becoming reality.
Please take a moment to send a letter to your members of Congress demanding: NO cuts to Medicaid or food stamps and NO MORE tax cuts for the ultra-rich.
