John,
I’ve endorsed fellow democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani for New York City Mayor, a position that represents more people than many U.S. Senators do.
With under 4 months until the Democratic mayoral primary, polls show that he’s in second place. He wrote: “Our momentum reflects the hunger across this city for politics that puts working people first.”
Unfortunately, progressive champion Zohran Mamdani is currently polling behind former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who recently joined the race.
Cuomo’s name recognition might help him win—even though he has abused his power, cut public services, violated state ethics laws, illegally lied to Congress, tried to cover up his order that led to 15,000 deaths of seniors from COVID, and resigned in disgrace after New York’s Attorney General affirmed that he had “forcibly touched and sexually harassed 11 women in the workplace.”1
Now, Cuomo is part of the legal team defending genocidal war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister. There couldn’t be a clearer contrast between Cuomo and Mamdani, who said: “We need a mayor focused on the cost of living crisis, not defending a genocide.”
As a New York State Assemblymember, Zohran Mamdani has fought for the working class and introduced first-in-the-nation legislation to stop NY charities from funding Israeli war crimes. In November 2023 he led a hunger strike in front of the White House demanding a permanent ceasefire, which I joined. His bold vision for NYC mayor includes universal free childcare, fast and free buses, freezing rent for more than two million rent-stabilized tenants, and starting nonprofit city-owned grocery stores that sell affordable groceries.
Later this week is Zohran Mamdani’s next filing deadline, when his campaign will release its fundraising numbers so far. It’s important to show strong continued support for this visionary candidate who’s fighting for a government that works for everyday people rather than billionaires.
Will you split a donation today between my and Zohran’s bold campaigns for transformative progressive change? We’ll keep fighting for a government that puts people over profits and saves lives at home and abroad.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately, split evenly between Rashida Tlaib and Zohran for NYC
Note: People can donate up to $2,100 to Zohran’s campaign, and if you’re a New York City resident, the first $250 of your donation to Zohran will be matched 8 times thanks to the city’s public campaign finance program.
In this time when dehumanization endangers our communities and lawmakers are trying to criminalize protesters for exercising their First Amendment rights, we need more elected leaders who will stand up for our rights and see everyone as worthy of life and of dignity.
NYC’s current mayor has praised Trump, sent police to attack pro-Palestine student protesters, and is facing a trial after being indicted for corruption. Meanwhile, Zohran volunteered with Students for Justice in Palestine while in college, and as a State Assemblymemer he has:
-
Joined taxi drivers in hunger striking to achieve more than $450 million in transformative debt relief,
-
Won over $100 million in the state budget for increased subway service and a successful fare-free bus pilot,
-
Organized New Yorkers to defeat a proposed dirty power plant,
-
And more!
Zohran and I are both committed to helping working families thrive, and we don’t take any money from corporate PACs—instead relying on grassroots donations.
Please split a donation today between my and Zohran Mamdani’s campaigns to defend and expand human rights, including the right to housing—before his big fundraising deadline later this week.
Thank you for continuing to build a better world that values human dignity for all.
In solidarity,
Rashida
