At last week's presidential address to Congress, House Speaker Mike Johnson sat behind President Trump, listened to the President reciting hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars wasted on nonsense, and shook his head dramatically.
It was a farce. Mike Johnson voted for all of that spending.
In fact, when a majority of House Republicans were against extending Nancy Pelosi's budget yet again last year, Mike Johnson was happy to make a deal with the Democrats to pass an extension with more votes from Democrats than Republicans!
And tomorrow, Mike Johnson plans to extend Nancy Pelosi's budget once again.
This time, the Democrats aren't supporting it – but the Republicans appear ready to, because the Trump administration isn't actually going to spend the money they authorize – they promise!
If they were serious about cutting the spending, why are they demanding the debt ceiling be raised another $4 trillion?
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has reportedly already identified $300 billion in spending to be cut.
Then make them cut it. Trump's executive orders are only temporary. Congress must pass a rescission bill to terminate the waste and abuse.
Take the countless ridiculous foreign aid contracts that DOGE exposed. By law, money for these scams must be recycled and re-spent on other, equally ridiculous contracts – and rogue judges have already proven they will usurp the President's Article II powers to force the money to be spent.
If Congress doesn't rescind the money for those expenditures, the Johnson budget deal will ratify the entirety of the runaway spending in the last Pelosi/Biden budget and cancel every dime the DOGE operation has purportedly saved.
Call your representative at (202) 224-3121 and tell him or her: NO BUDGET DEAL WITHOUT RESCISSION!

Hi, this is [your name] from [your city]. I'm calling to tell the Congressman to vote NO on the budget until Congress passes a rescission bill to cut the wasteful spending.
Congress has a constitutional duty to rein in the out-of-control spending. Until and unless you actually cut the government waste that DOGE has identified, you are voting to spend all that money again.
You are voting to spend us into oblivion.

If your representative is a Democrat, you can leave the exact same message: Democrats need to know their constituents are fed up with the wasteful spending, too.
We have one shot to break this cycle.
If Republicans approve this Pelosi budget with no cuts, you can be certain the spending isn't going to be cut any time soon –all of the waste Trump is talking about cutting requires action from Congress.
