On Presidents’ Day, we honor the life and legacy of our U. S. Presidents. Originally established to celebrate the birthday of President George Washington, today we reflect on enduring American traditions of democracy, diplomacy, and peace. Across the Fifth District, constituents come together to mark this historic day with parades, speeches, art projects, and other patriotic events.
During my time in Congress, I have worked diligently under two different Presidential administrations to pass crucial legislation. Under the 45th President I sponsored H.R. 8144 Mental Health Staffing Act and H.R. 8145, the Menal Health Counseling Act.
In 2022, under the 46thPresident I led the Access to Baby Formula Act to improve access to infant formula amid a massive shortage. As a parent there is nothing more important than ensuring the health and safety of your child. The bipartisan legislation provided certainty for families and manufacturers, ensuring that a crisis like this never happens again. Working with the Executive branch as a separate but coequal branch of government to advocate for the men and women of the Fifth District, continues to be my top priority.
Presidential Exhibit at the Mattatuck Museum
In December 2024, the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT contacted my office for assistance in obtaining a signed document from President Joseph R. Biden to add to their Presidential archive collection. The collection, originally donated by the late Francis T. “Fay” Vincent Jr., features artifacts and memorabilia celebrating our nation’s Presidents. My office was pleased to assist in securing the signed photo to help grow the collection.
In observance of Presidents’ Day, let us take time to reflect on what being a leader truly means. As we embark on this next chapter let us continue to work towards creating a more perfect union.
