| Friend, Donald Trump is waging a scorched earth campaign to anoint himself king and break our government and our democracy. The latest news reports show the U.S. Postal Service lies ahead on his path of annihilation.(1) We were thrilled when Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, the Republican megadonor appointed under Trump in 2020 who sought to ruin this vital service, resigned. Now we know it was so Trump could put the independent agency under control of the White House.(2) We fought for years to depose Postmaster General DeJoy. Now, we must save the Post Office from Donald Trump himself. Will you sign our petition to save the post office from Donald Trump?
Trump says he wants to run the post office like a business. Well, a reality-TV star who declared bankruptcy six times and whose business was convicted on 17 counts of tax fraud and other crimes would be the wrong person for that job.(3) Moreover, the post office is not a business, it’s a public service. We need it year-round for Social Security checks, prescription drugs, and more, and it’s especially crucial for rural and Indigenous communities.(4) It’s a public good guaranteed by our Constitution that millions of Americans rely on for medicine, voting, communicating with their families, and so much more. Before announcing he would step down as Postmaster General, DeJoy was busy implementing a 10-year plan to privatize the postal service. It eliminated 50,000 jobs, hiked fees above the rate of inflation, and forced some neighborhoods to go weeks without mail delivery.(5,6,7) And now, Trump wants to put that damaging privatization plan on overdrive?
