Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Good morning, everyone, and happy Monday!

Last week on Capitol Hill was extremely exciting as President Trump delivered a joint address to Congress.

President Trump laid out a bold vision for America—one that focuses on strengthening our economy, securing the border, restoring accountability in government, and reaffirming America’s leadership on the world stage. His commitment to cutting taxes for hardworking Americans, eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars, and keeping our nation safe resonates with Wisconsinites who want a government that works for them, not against them.

Under President Trump’s leadership, we’ve seen policies that put American jobs first, secure our borders, promote energy independence, reduce crime, protect free speech, and rein in unelected federal bureaucrats. His call to rein in out-of-control spending, balance the federal budget, and put America first is exactly what we need to combat inflation and restore stability to our economy.

I stand with President Trump in his mission to restore prosperity and get our nation back on track. As he said in his speech: "America is back!"

Keep reading on to hear additional updates about what's been happening in Washington. I hope you have a great week.

Building Our Future: Increasing Housing Supply in America

The House Financial Services Committee last week held a hearing titled, “Building Our Future: Increasing Housing Supply in America.”

The hearing examined the factors and policies that have led to the lack of housing supply in America. While estimates vary, experts estimate that the overall housing market is currently underbuilt by millions of units. This gap is especially pronounced in the moderate-income price range for single family purchase homes where, in many places, developers cannot afford to build such houses despite available purchaser interest. Factors contributing to this supply challenge include inflation, regulatory costs, workforce challenges, and state and local land-use policies, among others. The Committee heard testimony from experts to understand the depths of the problem and measures necessary to correct it.
