For over 200 years, an unbroken chain of freely-elected Presidents have led Americans through some of history’s greatest challenges—while others have abused the office for personal or political gain.
There’s an easy remedy for leaders who abuse their power: the ballot box. From the soldiers of the Revolution to the suffragettes to Civil Rights pioneers like Congressman John Lewis, tens of thousands of Americans have marched, petitioned, battled, and died for the right to vote.
In our democracy, your vote is your power. That’s why far-right extremists are working day and night to steal your right to vote, weaken our democracy, and stop you from fighting back.
Since 2020 alone, hundreds of voter suppression bills have been introduced at all levels of government. The far-right majority on the Supreme Court gutted key provisions of the Voting Rights Act and declared the president above the law.
The current president and his allies have spent tens of millions of dollars to destroy faith in our democracy, leading to the deadly attack on our nation’s Capitol.
Now, he’s taking revenge against his political enemies and firing ethics watchdogs so he can violate the law without question.
Those who want American democracy to fall won’t stop their assault on our institutions until every last freedom is gone.
So, on this President’s Day, I want to make you a promise: I’ll do everything in my power to protect your power and your rights.
Let's continue the work of generations of Americans who came before us and ensure our democracy endures for generations to come.
Thank you, Angela Alsobrooks
