John,
Dr. Huey P. Newton was born on February 17, 1942. His legacy is not one to be remembered in passing—it is one to be studied, upheld, and advanced in the continued fight for Black liberation.
59 years ago, the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense emerged as a necessity. It was not just an organization—it was a movement, a revolutionary response to the unrelenting oppression of Black people. Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale and their counterparts knew that the only way forward was to seize our own destiny, defend our communities, and build the power necessary for true liberation.
Our modern day struggle for Black liberation cannot be understood outside of the context of the Black Panther Party.
While imprisoned, Brother Huey sharpened the Party’s ideological foundation. He deepened the work that shaped the Free Breakfast Program, community self-defense efforts, and the 10-Point Program—initiatives so radical and necessary that their absence today remains proof of the system’s failure. These were not charity programs; they were acts of revolution. They were a declaration that we, the people, would build what this government refused to provide.
We owe our movement’s strength to the warriors who came before us. The Black Panther Party laid the groundwork. They showed us that liberation is not a theory—it is action, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the people.
The fight is not over. The blueprint exists. The tools are in our hands. What we do next is what determines if we truly honor our revolutionary ancestors.
While modern-day history—corrupted by white supremacy—typically remembers Huey’s legacy, and that of the Black Panther Party, as one of armed resistance, we must not allow them to erase the party’s foundational contributions to liberation and resilience through their innovative survival programs, electoral campaigns, business ventures, and so much more.
Today, we’re honored to support the Black Panther Party Museum, established in January 2024 by the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation, to ensure that this history is never distorted, erased, or forgotten. Donate today to preserve and uplift the truth of our movement.
All Power to the People,
Black Lives Matter
Our grassroots movement is pushing for Black liberation every single day. We are striving to create a world where Black people do so much more than just survive. It’s time we thrive.
As an organization one of our biggest hurdles is consistency.
A recurring contribution of anything you can afford goes a long way as we plan for the months, years, and even decades ahead. This is the most effective way for small-dollar donors (like you) to power our Black liberation work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
