John,
More than 45,000 supporters signed our petition urging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to hold an emergency session to pass universal background checks after the horrific mass shootings earlier this month in El Paso and Dayton.
But Sen. McConnell is still refusing to come back from vacation, so we need to push even harder.
Sen. McConnell says he wants to “actually pass something” to prevent gun violence and save lives, but he refuses to use his power to call an emergency session so the Senate can take immediate action. This is an emergency, and it’s on each of us to call on Sen. McConnell to treat it like one.
That’s why we must keep the pressure on. We need 15,000 more people to sign our petition by tomorrow to make sure Sen. McConnell knows we won’t accept further inaction, but we’re still missing your name, and time’s running out.
Thirty-one people were murdered and more than 50 more injured in El Paso and Dayton two weeks ago. And over the past two weeks, we’ve lost even more lives to gun violence. It’s disgraceful that the Senate still hasn’t passed lifesaving universal background checks legislation that 97% of Americans support.
Thank you for helping us make a strong, united call for the Senate to take action to prevent the next tragedy before it can happen.
