Hi John, Welcome back to "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly," your go-to source for the latest voting news. While the Virginia House passed several bills to protect voting rights, the Arizona House advanced restrictive measures that could limit voter access. In Indiana and New Hampshire, efforts to suppress student voting are on the rise. Alright, buckle up and join us as we navigate the world of voting — where The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly all meet. 😉

😃 THE GOOD: The Virginia House has passed several bills to protect voting rights and election integrity. These include: - H.B. 1657 – Prohibits the systematic removal of voters from registration rolls within 90 days of an election.
-
H.B. 2002 – Prevents voter registration cancellations based on unverified external data.
- H.B. 2276 – Requires data-sharing with bordering states and strengthens safeguards and notification before removing voters from registration lists.
-
H.B. 2746 – Ensures a court must make a clear finding before revoking voting rights due to mental incompetence.
- H.B. 2056 – Grants local governments more flexibility to extend early voting hours.
-
H.B. 2277 – Clarifies that election boards are required to certify election results.
These bills have passed the Virginia State House and one has made it to the Governor’s desk.
😠 THE BAD: The Arizona House has advanced two restrictive voting bills that could limit voter access. H.B. 2017 would end in-person early voting and ban countywide voting centers. This would force voters to cast ballots only at assigned precincts on Election Day, potentially leading to longer wait times. H.B. 2007 would make it illegal to pay individuals to collect and submit voter registration forms, restricting outreach efforts, especially in underserved communities. Both bills have passed the Arizona State House and have moved to the Senate for consideration.
😡 THE UGLY: Efforts to restrict student voting access are gaining traction in multiple states. The Indiana Senate passed S.B. 10, which would remove student IDs as an accepted form of voter identification and modify voter list maintenance procedures. In New Hampshire, lawmakers are once again targeting the campus vote with a new bill that could change how college students cast their ballots, including removing college IDs as a qualifying voter ID. Student voting, particularly the surge in participation during presidential elections, has been a highly debated issue at the State House, with ongoing efforts to impose new restrictions.
