Dear Friends and Allies,
As we confront the rising tides of authoritarianism and attacks on immigrant communities, fundamental rights, cuts to DEI programs and initiatives, and the stalling of our government’s commitment to transitioning away from fossil fuels,, Community Labor United is using our unique role to bring our partners together and strategize on paths forward.
Our strong relationships across the community and labor sectors have allowed us to bring organizations together to share ideas, resources, and explore collective organizing ideas as we work to protect workers, immigrants, working-class communities, people of color, and the environment. We have held several convenings where we exchanged info, updated each other about the threats each of our organizational members are facing and where we’ve begun to develop blue city, blue state strategies and concrete, specific ways we can take collective action to defend and protect our community members.
Together with our partners, we are pulling together resources and information, trainings, support available to different communities and sharing our best practices on a number of fronts. If you have pieces or info to share or need info, please reach out to us.
In the meantime, it is more important than ever to recognize the impactful contributions that Black leaders and organizations have had on our current work. In honor of Black History Month, we want to take the time to acknowledge and appreciate those who have done the hard work before us and who are continuing this fight. Consider joining us in subscribing to 28 Days of Black History ([link removed]) , where each day of Black History Month you will receive an email that will educate you on the significant influence that Black leaders have had on our work with labor. There is also no better time than now to reflect on ways we can continue to support and uplift the Black leaders who are currently fighting alongside us in creating a city we are proud of.
In solidarity,
The CLU Team
Eric, Khadjiah, Lisa, Susanna, & Ziquelle
