EARN Notice February 2025

Greetings EARN community,

Happy Black History Month —and month of love!

I know that many of you are fully immersed in legislative sessions, knee-deep in hearings, testimonies, and drafting rapid analyses. I hope you are still able to carve out time for the activities that spark joy and recharge your batteries.

In case you missed it, EPI recently released the State of Working America Data Library, a resource we hope will help you reclaim some of your time during this busy season (and maybe spark a little joy for data nerds.) High-quality, disaggregated, and accessible data are key for understanding the economic trends shaping our communities and for building multiracial working-class solidarity across the states. The SWA Data Library provides easily accessible statistics on labor force dynamics, poverty, union density, and more. Data are available for all 50 states and the District of Columbia, with further breakdowns by race, ethnicity, and gender.

Whether you’re looking for data to start a new project, support a legislative proposal, or simply stay abreast of the economic trends in your state—many of the data are updated monthly—we hope this new tool serves you well in your research and advocacy efforts. We encourage you to pass it along to your colleagues and partners who might also find it useful!

Can’t find what you’re looking for on the State of Working American Data Library? Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’re here to provide technical assistance, talk through your research ideas, or connect you with other experts across the country.

In solidarity,

Daniel Perez

ICYMI: Recent EARN Events

EARN 101: We hosted this workshop on January 14th, 2025, for those who may be new to the EARN community or are less familiar with the EARN network to learn about the resources we provide and how we work with an array of partners (union, grassroots, state and local government) to advance worker power and racial and gender justice. This webinar also included a demo of some of our data resources and offered guidance on how staff can take advantage of EPI's and the network's deep well of expertise.

Unions 101: On January 23rd, 2025 we hosted this webinar discussing what unions do, who today’s union members are, and why state labor policy matters for racial, gender, and economic justice and democracy. Participants, whether new to working with unions or with years of experience, were invited to bring their questions, ideas, and experiences to this interactive Zoom workshop. The session explored the roles unions play in the workplace and economy, how state policies shape workers’ union rights, and opportunities to deepen labor partnerships in state issue campaigns.
