In the last four weeks, I’ve heard from countless Texans who are alarmed and dismayed by Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s assault on the federal government.

→ I’ve heard from teachers and parents who are worried about Trump’s threats to gut federal support for public schools.

→ I’ve heard from leaders around the world who can no longer save children from preventable diseases because of Musk’s illegal cuts to USAID.

→ And I’ve heard from folks in the medical community who are worried about cuts to life saving medical research into cancer and other illnesses.

These programs are personal to me.

As someone who attended schools that depended on federal funding to meet the needs of low-income families, I know how much the Department of Education matters.

As a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I know firsthand the impact of USAID assistance around the globe.

And as a cancer survivor, I know that federal medical research saves countless lives every year, including my own.

These aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet – tens of millions of families in Texas and across the nation and the world will be impacted by these dangerous and illegal attacks.

That’s why we can’t afford to sit back.
