Dear Friend,
A lot happened last week, and I didn't want you to miss Jodie's op-ed in The Guardian: Trump called the press 'the enemy of the people.' Now it's time to defend ourselves.
If you're short on time, here's the key takeaway: For vital media institutions to survive, it's crucial for all sides to stand up clearly and unequivocally for the right to report the news especially at a time when local press is severely weakened.
A powerful example of this also happened last week when we condemned the White House's decision to block The Associated Press (AP) from covering official events due to AP's use of the internationally recognized name for the Gulf of Mexico. This move is part of a concerning pattern of retaliation against a free press.
As Jodie put it, "Challenging the bullies is part of the job," and we'll continue to speak out against these violations at every opportunity.
Thanks for staying engaged.
Best,
John
